Le Sanpei Bamboo Arita Sauce Plate

This sauce plate is made by Ri Sanpei (Yi Sam-pyeong) Kiln, a brand by the descendant of Yi Sam-Pyeong, the discoverer of white porcelain ore for Arita ware. The beautiful shading of the bamboo painting makes you feel as if you are looking at a distant landscape. The thick and round edge gives a soft and welcoming atmosphere. 

It is a perfect size for serving sauce or snacks like nuts and candies.

Also, you can put a small portion of food or relishes in, place it on a larger plate or into a bento box for more stylish and sophisticated food presentation.

Using the same Izumiyama pottery stone as the first generation, Ri Sanpei continues to produce porcelain ware that convey the atmosphere of the early Imari period. The style of early Imari is very different from that of the red and gold painted porcelain that was later exported to the West.

For early Imari, the underglaze blue painted patterns are simple, often painted freely with blue paint called “Gosu”. When fired, the base color of the ware becomes slightly tinted and has a semi-glossy appearance.

Please note that there may be slight differences as all pieces are formed by potter’s wheel and hand-painted.

Yi Sam-Pyeong, one of the Korean potters in Japan, is said to have first discovered the raw material for white porcelain. Ri Sanpei is a brand that handles products supervised by the 13th generation of his direct descendants and products made by the descendants of the 14th generation. The products are handled using the highest quality potter’s clay selected by Kanegae Sanbei (14th generation Yi Sam-Pyeong).
